English
At St James', we believe the use of English, in all forms, underpins the curriculum.
Reading and writing is an essential and life-long skill that enables children to meet their full potential and provides connections to new opportunities and experiences, inside and outside of the school environment.
Therefore, it is imperative that students are equipped with the tools to be successful, supported and challenged on their journey, building on their early experiences of writing and reading. Throughout this learning journey, students will gain the ability to comprehend and fully use the English language, which will give them access to the wider curriculum.
Consequently, English is given a high priority in our school and is taught daily in every class using the guidance from the National Curriculum. This includes, reading (guided and independent), spelling, handwriting and coverage of all genres of writing, across KS2.
