Antarctica Week: Don't Eat Yellow Snow
We started our Antarctica Week by taking part in a webinar hosted by the Thwaites Glacier Collaboration (A UK/USA led team of researchers based in Antarctica) led by scientists Sarah Berry and Athena Dinar. We will be turning our notes into an explanation demonstrating our knowledge of Antarctica.
We were super excited to find Ellie-Mae's question read out live to thousands watching around the world and debated by the two scientists; a moment that did erupt the class into celebration so we aren't sure to the answer!
We will be watching again on Thursday when we are finding out what is beneath the ice, and also on Friday when we focus on the vehicles, aircraft and boats!
This Week: Antarctica Week 🐧
If you wish to view any of the evening webinars head to : https://www.bas.ac.uk/event/antarctica-week-festival-2020/
We are going to be moving on to explanation texts in English and are excited to be invited to participate in Antarctica Week to support us in our learning 🙌🏼
We will take part in webinars online with researchers who currently live in Antarctica to learn about their research, life and the environment they live in!
Build My Skills 2020
Lego Robotics Week
Our class were fortunate enough to team up with BAE Systems for the week as a part of Lego Robotic Week.
We had a blast, building drones using the Circuit Scribe kits and working as a team to build a rover capable of moving across a course. A great learning experience in which we all learnt something new about ourselves!
Along with Year 6, Year 5 are looking at Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
The children have been interested in his simplistic yet
colourful pieces of work, which focusses on a use of line.
We have been recreational his take on trees using our own linear designs. Soon, we will be looking to take our own area and interests and blend them with Hundertwasser’s techniques. I’m sure you will agree how good they all look!
We made a Solar System!
The Solar System is our topic in Science! We are enjoying learning about the planets and everything that space has to offer!
We decided to make the most of the last of the good weather for the year and make our own solar system! We decided on a scale to use and use the playing fields to try and map the distance each planet was from the sun, along with the moons that the planets have too!
